A pleasant, refreshing essential oil is derived from the majestic, evergreen balsam fir. This tree, native to North America, can reach heights of 24 meters and has slender needles. Native Americans used balsam fir for rituals and rejuvenation. Balsam fir, primarily used for producing pulp and as a building material, does not react well to pollution and is therefore not commonly found in large cities. It is definitely more frequently found in forests, where the air is fresh and clean. When used topically during massage, the main component of balsam fir oil, ß-Pinene, may have a soothing effect on the skin. The essential oil is obtained from the bark of the balsam fir through steam distillation and has a fresh, woody aroma.
