About us

The mission of doTERRA from the very beginning has been to share the highest quality essential oils with the world. Seeing firsthand the incredible benefits of using these precious resources, a group of health and business specialists decided to make this mission a reality. They founded a company and named it doTERRA, which in Latin means "Gift of the Earth."

The first obstacle to overcome was establishing a quality standard in an industry that had never had one. It was not enough to simply deliver essential oils to homes around the world; the founders of doTERRA were committed to providing only the highest quality and purest essential oils so that families could be sure they were using only the best products to support the health and well-being of their loved ones. This commitment led to the creation of a new quality standard: CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade™.

To achieve such a grand vision as introducing essential oils to the whole world, a team of dedicated people was needed. This team had to consist of individuals committed to hard work, dedication, passion, and vision. Since its inception, this team has grown significantly, but the mission remains the same — to provide essential oils that resonate with everyone, from beginners to experts, and that can be safely used on loved ones.

Sharing essential oils is a unique experience, and the founders of doTERRA realized that a similarly unique sales model would be needed. To best facilitate personal experiences with essential oils, doTERRA utilizes a direct sales model that allows distributors to work with customers instead of mass marketing. This more individualized approach enables individuals to personally experience the amazing power of essential oils while also building trust-based relationships. This model has also created opportunities for individuals and families to achieve their dreams of financial independence. Over 4 million Wellness Advocates currently use and sell doTERRA products worldwide.

The first offer of doTERRA essential oils included 25 single oils and 10 blends and was launched for sale on April 25, 2008. Since then, the doTERRA product line has expanded to include many other single oils and oil blends, as well as nutritional, spa, and healthy lifestyle products based on essential oil technologies and a comprehensive wellness philosophy. Of course, this offering would not have been possible without the Global Botanical Network of artisans and distillers. As doTERRA became a trusted partner in the essential oil industry, it was also able to help communities improve their own economic futures through the Co-Impact Sourcing™ model and the doTERRA Healing Hands initiative.

With its headquarters in a modern facility in Pleasant Grove, Utah, doTERRA continues to pursue its vision of providing health benefits from essential oils to families around the world.
